Article Review: Peter Bil’ak- ‘I have more reasons to..’

‘make fonts than ever… typeface design is a cumulative process, there are more possible entry points, more references, more inspirations than ever before. As with books, when you engage in reading, it points to more books.. You might appreciate the ones you read early on more, because of your new understanding.’- Direct quote from Peter Bil’ak himself.
A rough out sketch of what the article consists of:
  • Typography, photography & illustration;
  • When he started studying/ learning about the approaches of his specialisms now;
  • Some background information.

This article was published in ‘Eye; issue 75, 2010: Typography Special.’ Throughout the article on Peter Bil’ak, the publisher ( Anthony Burril ) talks about the above already stated.
First thing that pops back into mind when looking back on this article, is the actual length of it. Starting with the quote stated above & talking about only his career/ designs from typography of which he studies all the way through 12 pages of A4 publication.
It’s a mixed variety of what he chooses to share with the publication, some of which is a mix from purely self made traditional typefaces, font prints, & images, & chucked in with a lot of digital work. Opinions are also thrown in all the way through, just to add that feeling of what your getting, actually is from the artist himse
